Focal mechanism and radiated energy from shallow tremors in the Guerrero seismic gap.
Abstract (要旨):
Thanks to the recent development of offshore seismic networks, shallow slow earthquakes have been reported at the Guerrero seismic gap at the Mexican subduction zone. In Guerrero, a good understanding of deep slow earthquakes has already been acquired, on the contrary, shallow slow earthquakes have been scarcely explored. We analyzed a catalog of shallow tremors in the Guerrero seismic gap to estimate source parameters, such as focal mechanisms and radiated seismic energy. First we estimated the horizontal orientation of OBS and evaluated the quality and limitations of the recorded data with ambient noise. We also attempted to quantify attenuation and site effects from the marine environment, which needs to be understood to unmask source properties of seismic events recorded. Focal mechanism of shallow tremors and regular earthquakes tend to follow the subducting plate motion with a low thrust angle. Additionally, spectrums were corrected to remove site effect and attenuation for the tremor frequency range. By removing these two effects, source spectrum of shallow tremors are available for comparison with regular earthquakes in the region. Describing shallow tremors in the Guerrero the seismic gap will bring a new perspective of the seismic behavior of the Guerrero seismic gap.
