A special Seminar at DPRI will be held as follows. We welcome Prof. Jeong Woo Kim from University of Calgary as an invited speaker.
Time & Date:
15:00 - 16:30, June 27, 2023.
Place:
E-232D, Main Building East, DPRI, Uji Campus, Kyoto University
Presentation:
Prof. Jeong Woo Kim (Schulich School of Engineering, Department of Geomatics Engineering, University of Calgary)
Title:
Superconducting Gravity Effect for Earthquake Early Detection
Abstract:
Earthquake detection by microgravity effects from iGrav superconducting gravimeter (SG) and current effort for earthquake early detection (EED) are presented. Examples include 1) Korea’s first observational SG installation and results and 2) pre-, co-, and inter-seismic SG signals detected at the Cascadia Subduction Zone in Pacific Canada. Recently, an iGrav SG was installed at the deep Yemi underground lab (~1,000 meters below surface) in Korea, and its status and the on-going effort for EED are introduced.
